Dish Network urges customers to bug advertisers over CBS blackout

The new deal between the two companies also included additional cable channels such as CBS Sports Network, POP and Smithsonian.

The deal comes after nearly three days of no CBS programming on Dish, including the NFL game on Thanksgiving Day, though it will allow football fans to watch SEC college games Friday and Saturday and an NFL doubleheader on Sunday.

The agreement, which does not include online channels on Dish's Sling TV, allows Dish to use CBS content across various USA cities, according to a statement late Thursday.

Besides rallying the TV remote soldiers, the dishpromise.com site offers a glimpse into Dish and CBS's tense negotiations. Dish believes CBS is trying to get its customers to pay a "CBS tax".

Late Thursday evening, Dish Network and CBS reached an agreement, just hours after more than three million Dish Network customers found they were unable to watch the LA Chargers and Dallas Cowboys game. The blackout had prevented almost 3 million Dish subscribers from watching the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers play the Dallas Cowboys on the Thanksgiving holiday.

"CBS is attempting to tax Dish customers on programming that's losing viewers, tax Dish customers on programming available for free over the air, and tax Dish customers for content available directly from CBS", Dish executive vice president Warren Schlichting said in a statement. The standoff reportedly occurred because CBS wanted Dish to bundle its modestly rated channels (Smithsonian, Pop, and CBS Sports Network) with the main CBS channel, something it was hesitant to do.

The dispute could also potentially affect the broadcasts of Saturday's Alabama-Auburn game and CBS' NFL coverage on Sunday. CBS said in a statement Wednesday morning that "we obviously want to strike a fair deal" but "we remain far apart on terms". "Our customers are clear: they don't want to pay a CBS tax".
