San Diego County unemployment drops to 3.7% but job growth stalls

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission believes the state set its all-time high for employment in January 2015, when the estimated number of payroll jobs hit 1,674,800.

While the 0.9 percent growth rate was modest compared to the rates of 1 to 2 percent as of a year or two ago, Smith said that number doesn't give the complete picture.

The unemployment rate remains the same at 3.9 percent, according to the Department of Workforce. Weaver said the decrease is unusual for this time of year as education jobs tend to increase during the first few months of the school year.

"That's a sign that we have robust job growth in the region", Smith said.

Nationally, the unemployment rate is 4.1 percent.

Rogers trumpets tax reform bill
On Thursday, the House passed House Resolution 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act , to simplify and modernize our unwieldy tax code. By 2027, families making less than $75,000 would face tax boosts while those making more would see cuts.

About 500 jobs were added from September, which had an unemployment rate of 3.9 percent, according to Weaver. There was a gain of 300 jobs in trade, transportation and utilities.

The unadjusted unemployment rate for the state of California is now 4.3 percent, while the unemployment rate for the nation sits at 3.9 percent.

Statewide, six of 11 industry sectors added jobs month-over-month, led by leisure and hospitality, 15,300, followed by education and health services, up 8,500, and government, up 4,800.

The U.S. reported unemployment fell to 4.1% in October from 4.2% in September. Nonfarm employment grew 11,000 jobs to a total of 1.6 million in October.
