Katy Perry banned from performing at Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai

The 2017 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will be taking place in Shanghai, China, in less than two weeks but the lineup will not include supermodel Gigi Hadid.

When the model announced in August that she would be participating in this years show, a number of commenters said that she would not be welcome in Shanghai, China, where the show will be held, due to her past behaviour. "Love my VS family, and will be with all my girls in spirit!" the model wrote on Twitter Thursday. Earlier this year, she came under fire for "racism" after her fellow model and sister Bella, shared a since-deleted video of her laughing and squinting her eyes while holding a cookie featuring the face of a samurai.

"[Perry] was initially granted a visa to perform at the VS show in Shanghai, then Chinese officials changed their minds and yanked her visa", the source told Page Six.

Hadid withdrew from the show after she received a barrage of messages online from angry members of the public over an alleged Asian slur. She admitted on the Today Show that she doesn't actually feel like she deserves the award, according to Teen Vogue. "If she had come, I would never buy VS my entire life", said one posting.

While it does seem likely that the blowback from the video could have caused Gigi's absence this year, neither Victoria's Secret nor Gigi have confirmed the rumors.

Speculation has also swirled over the participation of Russia's Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova, and Ukraine's Dasha Khlystun, after unconfirmed reports suggested they were denied Chinese visas.

Hadid joins a list of foreigners who wore out their China welcome. Taiwan has been in conflict with China over its independence for many years.

Most Chinese Weibo comments on her withdrawal were celebratory. He is still with the club.
