Jeff Long no longer Razorback Athletic Director, interim appointed

Jeff Long will not return as the Arkansas athletics director, according to multiple media reports and confirmed by SI.com's Bruce Feldman.

While serving at Arkansas, Long was named the first chairman of the college football playoff selection committee.

It is unclear if he was sacked or resigned from the position. The Razorbacks (4-6) will fail to win at least nine games this season for the sixth straight year, the school's longest stretch since an eight-year run that coincided with joining the SEC in 1992.

Long served as Arkansas' athletic director since 2008 when he took over from legendary figure Frank Broyles.

The move comes amid a losing season by the University of Arkansas Razorbacks football team, led by head coach Bret Bielema, who Long hired in 2013.

While not quite as indispensable as the stapler , the hole puncher has been a staple of business offices for more than a century. A cornerstone of stationery cupboards across the globe, the hole puncher celebrates its 131st anniversary today (November 14).

Associate Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Senior Associate Athletics Director Julie Cromer Peoples will serve as interim director of athletics while the university forms a search committee for Long's replacement.

"I walked out of a staff meeting about a half hour ago, so things have been standard, as usual", Bielema said on his weekly SEC teleconference call.

However, in announcing Long's departure, Arkansas chancellor Joseph Steinmetz said Long had "lost the support" of key supporters of the school. But I know this, winning ball games helps everybody, so that's all I'm focused on.

Bielema had been the head coach for the Badgers since 2006. "For our student-athletes, everything he stands for, everything he's tried to give them off the field, on the field, all the services we provide, all the support we've given. We're trying to put ourselves in the best position ever to have a great Wednesday practice to get to Saturday", said Bielema.
