GameStop Has Suspended Its PowerPass Used Game Rental Service

"We have elected to temporarily pause the roll out of the new PowerPass subscription service, based on a few program limitations we have identified", a spokesperson said to Kotaku.

Kotaku reports that GameStop employees have been instructed to remove signage advertising PowerPass from stores.

After PowerPass officially began earlier this week, GameStop froze the program, telling all stores to take down PowerPass advertisements and store them for the time being. At the end of each 6-month subscription, you get to choose one used game to keep as your own.

Assuming PowerPass is relaunched in a functional manner sometime in 2018, this is still not the outcome GameStop wanted right now.

The company hasn't offered an explanation as to why its made a decision to halt the program, instead citing "program limitations" that necessitated the abrupt stop.

For now, buying games at GameStop requires old-fashioned monetary exchange.

But he said none of the refugees agreed to move yesterday to alternative facilities in the island's main town. No matter what label you put on it there is absolute need and there is harm being done, ' she said on Sunday.

Per Kotaku, anyone who already bought into GamePass can bring back their pass and any game they rented for a full refund.

It's unclear why GameStop has made a decision to do this but some store employees suggest that limitations related to the company's old computers likely caused this. Now it's just a question of whether GameStop will upgrade its system, alter PowerPass to work with it, or just scrap the game-lending service entirely. Whatever the problem, it was enough to suspend the program indefinitely.

Customers looking forward to the rollout of GameStop's new game rental program, PowerPass, will have to press pause on those plans.

PowerPass has the potential to be a very popular service - that is if the catalog of games available is relatively large and up-to-date.

Keep an eye out as GameStop provides more information about PowerPass, and possible changes to the program.
