Morocco, Tunisia take different paths to World Cup

Morocco and Tunisia have joined Nigeria, Egypt, and Senegal as the African teams who will be playing in the World Cup this summer.

Tunisia and Morocco have completed the roster of teams that would represent Africa at the Russian Federation 2018 World Cup.

The win takes Congo up to 13 points, but Libya's failure to beat Tunisia means they end the campaign tantalisingly one point short of the North Africans.

The Atlas Lions went into the match in Abidjan just needing a draw to consolidate their place as pacesetters in the final group match, but they went one better in what was an assured display.

Libya had been forced to play all of their home games at neutral venues, including Tunisia, because of a Federation Internationale de Football Association ban on internationals in the country, where the security situation is judged unsafe for visiting teams.

The forecast calls for 50 degrees on Monday, setting off eight straight days with high temps of at least 50, AccuWeather said. He added that the normal high for this time of year is a 53 degrees, a full 18 degrees warmer than Saturday's high of 35.

But after weathering an early storm, including a potential penalty call, Morocco scored two goals in the space of five minutes to put themselves on their way to the finals, where their last appearance was in France in 1998.

Morocco ran down the clock with tactical substitutions in the closing minutes as Renard master-minded the downfall of his former employers, who he helped win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Tunisia survived some nervous moments in Rades as Libya finished strongly.

Tunisia's point ensures their fifth World Cup participation - and their first since 2006 - but ensures that the Democratic Republic of Congo's wait to return to the global showpiece for the first time since 1974 will continue.

Morocco have remarkably qualified from Group C without conceding a single goal.
