Cleveland hosts annual Veterans Day parade

Women who served in the armed forces will be honored at this year's Veterans Day parade starting at 11 a.m. Saturday. Mayor Jake Windham spoke during the ceremony.

The Veterans Day parade will form at the parking lot at Southern Maine Community College adjacent to the end of Broadway at 9:30 a.m. The route is created to accommodate a ceremony at Savannah Veterans Park immediately following the end of the parade at approximately 10:45 a.m. Wes Splettstoesser, American Legion Post 35 South Portland; Cmdr.

The Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans are gathering at noon in Library Park, 711 59th Place, for a ceremony. Winners of the Virginia War Memorial's annual Veterans Day Essay Contest for middle and high school students will be announced, with the winners reading their essays.

The Journal report did not allege that any money changed hands and did not detail how far the plan may have developed. Sources said the December meeting was a follow up to an earlier meeting on the same matter.

Lauren Daniels is in that class; and Veterans Day holds a special meaning for her. Lauren's parents and grandparents are veterans. The keynote speaker will be former Navy SEAL Rob Foley.

The parade was followed by a brief ceremony in front of Mooresville town hall, lunch and a concert on the town hall lawn. A parade will begin at 10:45 the corner of Lincoln Way and Cleveland Street and will proceed down Lincoln Way. A service will also be held at 6 the Wilton Congregational Church with Sammie Angel as the guest singer.
