Fusion GPS Met With Russian Lawyer Before, After Trump Tower Meeting

The Russian lawyer who met Donald Trump Jr. during last year's election campaign says he offered her a clear quid pro quo at the meeting: dirt on Hillary Clinton in exchange for changes to a USA law. Veselnitskaya says she had gone to the Trump Tower meeting to lobby against it. Veselnitskaya said she's also ready - if asked - to testify to Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

The June 2016 meeting at Trump Tower, which The New York Times uncovered this summer, has drawn close scrutiny from the multiple investigations into whether Trump's campaign colluded with Russian Federation previous year.

The June 2016 meeting in NY between Veselnitskaya and Donald Trump Jr, along with other senior Trump campaign officials, has become part of an investigation into allegations Russian Federation interfered in the USA presidential election.

Removal of sanctions was likely among the goals of any interference by Moscow to help a more Kremlin-friendly candidate into the White House, though it was not clear if Trump Jr.'s conversation about it was part of a potential exchange between the parties.

She also said that Trump Jr. had asked her for written proof of her claim that Ziff Brothers Investments had evaded US taxes while donating heavily to Clinton and other Democratic candidates.

Trump Jr. later said the discussion was about Russian adoptions.

"The meeting was a failure; none of us understood what the point of it had been", she told Bloomberg in an interview on Monday, referring to the meeting that Trump Jr. initially claimed was about the Magnitsky Act, which Congress passed in 2012 to punish Russian officials for human rights abuses. Russian President Vladimir Putin banned Americans from adopting Russian orphans in response to the law's passage.

When she began laying out the case against the Ziffs, she said that he asked: "This money the Ziffs got from Russian Federation, do you have any financial documents showing that this money went to Clinton's campaign?"

I was protecting Kevin, who my dad surely would have tried to punch. "I was protecting myself, because I thought one day I'd want to work with this man".

USA -born businessman, Bill Browder, a personal friend of Magnitsky who had lobbied for the sanctions, asserted that Putin was determined to have the law repealed, according to The Atlantic.

The meeting has become a target of the special counsel investigation of possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Russian Federation to meddle in the election.

"If it's what you say, I love it", Trump Jr. responded.

"Looking ahead, if we come to power, we can return to this issue and think what to do about it, " Trump Jr. said during the meeting, according to Veselnitskaya. Jared Kushner-the president's son-in-law and top adviser-left after a few minutes and Manafort appeared to have fallen asleep, she said.

Ziff Brothers Investments has contributed to Republicans and Democrats since the 2012 election cycle, according to the non-partisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Her comments add to a growing body of evidence indicating that the Trump campaign was willing to change official USA policy to please Russian Federation in return for anything that would help win the election. She is seeking a public hearing to tell her story, and continues to deny having any information about Russian hacking.

"That I definitely don't have!"
