Microsoft passes $80 per share in after-hours trading after blow-out quarter

Instead of the decades-long obsession with Windows sales as the key indicator of Microsoft's performance, focusing - and delivering - on a big cloud services revenue goal showed that the company was ready to move those days into a new era, as he detailed at our GeekWire Summit earlier this month.

As a reward Microsoft's share price climbed 3.4% in after-hours trading to $81.46, giving the company a market cap of more than $626 billion.

PiperJaffray analysts Alex Zukin, Scott Wilson and Taylor Reiners had expected 30 percent growth in Office 365 commercial revenue, which would have been down from more than 40 percent in revenue growth in the past two years. Revenue from the Office 365 cloud productivity suite was up 42% from the same period a year ago, and revenue from the Dynamics 365 cloud product was up 69%.

Revenue from Microsoft's intelligent cloud business rose almost 14 per cent to US$6.92 billion in the first quarter ended September 30. Azure gross margins were a "key component" of the 8 percentage point improvement in commercial cloud services from the same period a year ago, Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood said.

'Golmaal Again' crosses Rs. 100 crore in India
Following that, the comedy entertainer earned rs.28.37 crores and rs. 29.09 crores on Saturday and Sunday respectively. On Monday, the movie has earned a sum of Rs 16.04 crore and which is collecting a total of Rs 103.64 crore.

More Personal Computing revenue was relatively flat year over year at $9.4 billion as Windows OEM revenue grew 4% and Windows commercial products and cloud revenue increased 7%. Search acquisition costs jumped 15 percent.

Azure sales rose 90 percent.

Revenue has been patchier in personal-computer software and hardware. This recent period was the first full quarter in which stores were stocked with an update to that product - Microsoft's best-selling Surface - and a totally new category, a laptop computer with a clamshell design. To Productivity and Business Processes, LinkedIn contributed $1.1 billion.

Notably, however, Google managed to overtake Microsoft both in revenue and profit, generating $6.7 billion in profit on $27.7 billion revenue. Analysts had estimated $8 billion.
