Flu season is here: Have you gotten your vaccination?

The vaccine can be a tougher sell than other shots, Wright said, because people need to get it yearly to keep up with rapidly evolving flu viruses, and because it's less effective than other vaccines. While the shot is available in pharmacies such as at No Frills, flu clinics will also be held at the Stettler Community Hall and Community Health Centre at specific dates.

Clinics go November 1 from 1:45 to 4 p.m.at Oliver Woods Community Centre and November 9 from 2 to 6:30 p.m.at Beban Park social centre. The community health centre will have theirs on December 13 by pre-booked appointments only.

"The best ways to help protect yourself and those around you from influenza are to get immunized, wash your hands frequently, and to cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue".

We encourage everyone to become a flu fighter by getting vaccinated. This helps people who can't get a flu shot for health or medical reasons, by limiting the spread of the virus - those who are protected act as a barrier to the spread of the virus to others. The total cost was $12.1 million.

"More than 52,000 lab-confirmed cases of influenza have been recorded so far this year, and more than 5600 patients admitted to hospital have tested positive to influenza", Minister Dick said. "Hey, I didn't get one previous year and I was fine", someone else adds. "Not only does it protect you, it protects people around you, including your friends and family". There's nothing to be (scared) about.

Whether these differences relate to clinical disease resistance remains to be seen, but in the meantime the authors are urging adults to get vaccinated early in the day. Actually, it is your choice which side you choose, but if your arm does get sore you'll notice it less in your non-dominate arm.
