How The Clinton Campaign And DNC Are Connected To The Trump Dossier

A lawyer for Clinton's campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid Fusion GPS to develop opposition research against then-candidate Trump during the election, according to several reports. The letter was filed with the court on Tuesday.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC continued to bankroll the research into Trump up until October previous year, just before election day. In this case, the desire to learn more about Trump's connections to Russian Federation began with one of his primary opponents in 2016.

In a letter, Elias' law firm, Perkins Coie, said it began working with Fusion GPS in April 2016 and that the Clinton campaign and the DNC stopped funding Fusion GPS' research before the presidential election November 8.

The revelation is likely to fuel complaints by Trump that the dossier, which the president has derided as "phony stuff", is a politically motivated collection of salacious claims.

President Donald Trump (R) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) walk to a lunch with Senate Republicans on Capitol Hill, October 24, 2017 in Washington, DC.

"Tom Perez and the new leadership of the DNC were not involved in any decision-making regarding Fusion GPS, nor were they aware that Perkins Coie was working with the organization".

New York Times reporter Ken Vogel took to Twitter to accuse Elias of previously denying involvement in the Trump dossier shortly after the Washington Post report was released.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC declined to comment to the Post.

The FBI paid Steele to look into Trump's connections with Russian Federation after the election, but stopped once his name was published in the media. They reportedly withdrew from the agreement after Steele, who was known and well respected for work he had done on a global corruption probe, was identified in news reports. Wait-didn't Republicans start this operation as an opposition research effort?

Special Counsel Robert Mueller, a former FBI chief, is in the midst of a months-long probe of Trump campaign links to Moscow and whether Trump obstructed justice when he fired another FBI director, James Comey, who was heading the agency's Russian Federation investigation before Mueller took over.

Earlier Tuesday, Fusion GPS lawyer William Taylor issued a statement that Congress' request was overly broad and that it was "designed to punish President Trump's political foes while chilling future investigative research into his actions".

"It is relevant who paid for the dossier".

Last week, an attorney for Fusion GPS sent a letter to the House Intelligence Committee that suggested it has no plans to cooperate with its investigation.

Nunes stepped aside from the House intelligence committee's investigation into Russia's interference in the election in April following an ethics investigation into his handling of classified information. I think I would know but let's find out who it is.

Former FBI director James Comey briefed Trump and former President Obama on the existence of the dossier and told a Congressional panel that none of the allegations have been verified.

But the USA intelligence community months ago concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally directed an effort to undermine US democratic elections and to help Trump claim the White House.
