Aston Martin shows off new DB11 Volante convertible GT vehicle

Aston Martin says the new vehicle is 26kg lighter than the old DB9 Volante model, as well as five percent stiffer, to provide a better ride and handling experience.

DB11 Volante development prototypes were put on test in locations including Death Valley and the Arctic Circle.

ASTON MARTIN has launched a stunning all-new luxury convertible, the DB11 Volante, which joins the DB11 Coupe which went on sale late past year.

The all-new 8-layer hood is created to insulate the occupants from the extremes of weather and wind noise, taking just 14 seconds to lower and 16 to close. The Volante takes the roof out of the equation, giving the DB11 a significant different, and in many ways more elegant appearance.

As it stands, the V8 will be the only engine available to Volante buyers though, and although the lack of cylinders might detract from the sense of occasion from previous V12-engined Volantes, the performance of the twin-turbo engine is certainly not lacking.

The 0-100mph dash gets out of the way in 8.8 seconds and the auto will go on to a top speed of 187mph. Drivers can control the hood remotely via the key, and can operate it at speeds of up to 31 miles per hour.

Nadal, Federer cruise into Shanghai Masters quarterfinals
The result sees the World No. 1 move into the semi-finals of the Shanghai Masters where he will face 4th seed Marin Cilic . Sixteenth seed Juan Martin del Potro recovered after dropping the first set to beat Viktor Troicki 4-6 6-1 6-4.

Like the coupe, the V8 unit sends 503 horsepower and 513 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic.

The convertible was subjected to more than 100,000 cycles of extreme weather simulating the world's harshest environments, compressing 10-years' worth of use into a one-month test. A V12 engine is expected to be added later. Top speed is also identical for both models.

The new hood system has also led to a 20 per cent gain in boot volume compared to the outgoing DB9 Volante.

Say hello to the latest evolution of Aston Martin's iconic convertible sports GT.

Deliveries of the Aston Martin DB11 Volante in the US are scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2018 and will be priced from $220,385 including destination.

But the maker would have us believe it's a whole lot more: It's 26kg lighter and five percent stiffer than the convertible DB9 it replaces, thanks to the all-new bonded aluminium structure it shares with the coupé. From what we can see, Aston Martin has another stunner in its growing line-up.
