'White Widow' Sally Jones: British Isis recruiter killed in Syria strike

The Defence Secretary made the comments at a press conference following reports of the death of "White Widow" Sally Jones, a notorious IS recruiter who is said to have been killed in a missile strike near the Iraq/Syria border.

A Whitehall source told The Sun: "The Americans zapped her trying to get away from Raqqa".

The nickname "white widow" is also attributed to Samantha Lewthwaite- the widow of the 2005 London attacker Germaine Lindsay- who has since been linked to a number of terror plots in Africa.

The newspaper said the blast was kept secret by the Central Intelligence Agency over concerns Jones' twelve year old son, Jojo, may have also been killed in the incident.

Following her husband's death, Jones was reportedly placed in charge of the female wing of IS' Anwar al-Awlaki batallion - a foreign fighter unit formed with the goal of planning and executing attacks in the West.

A similar letter was sent to seven municipalities, including Chicago, New York and New Orleans. Kenney has been an ardent supporter of Philadelphia's " sanctuary city " policies.

Jones is among many suspected IS operatives on a United Nations sanctions list, which includes a travel ban and a freeze on her assets. Spokesman Maj Adrian Rankine-Galloway said, "I do not have any information that would substantiate that report but that could change and we are looking into this".

Metro reported that in a Twitter post after Hussain's death, Jones claimed she was "proud my husband was killed by the biggest enemy of Allah, may Allah be pleased with him".

Also, Mrs. Jones encouraged people to attack Britain and gave instructions on how to construct a bomb in a home environment.

Officials said conditions on the ground prevent them from knowing for certain if Jones is dead, but her social media activity has been silent for months.

She became radicalized after travelling to Syria following an online romance with convicted computer hacker and IS member Junaid Hussain, who died in a 2015 drone strike.
