By Monday night, only 5 percent of the fire was contained, the LA Times reported.

The Orange County fire has destroyed two dozen structures, including homes and outbuildings.

Officials are asking anyone remaining to leave the area. By late afternoon, ash from the fire was falling as far away as Long Beach and San Pedro. The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued a smoke advisory for a wide swath of Orange County and southern Los Angeles County. At least four homes were completely gutted by the flames. Horse evacuations were established on the west end of Yorba Regional Park. An information hotline was set up at (714) 765-4333. Dio Compolongo, 22, said he operated "on total instinct" when he saw the blaze creeping close to his family's residence in the Anaheim Hills.

As wildfires raged across Northern California, authorities have said the fires have burned more than 1,500 buildings and at least 13 people have died.

"I don't think the fire itself would be reaching us". More than 1,000 firefighters, six fixed-wing aircrafts and 14 helicopters were battling the blaze.

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Director Ken Pimlott say an estimated 20,000 people have been evacuated. The westbound lanes were closed at the 241 connector, she added.
