How Oklahoma's loss to Iowa State will impact College Football Playoff race

One player on the Iowa State Cyclones made a decision to return the favor on Saturday after their team pulled off a huge upset over the #3 ranked Sooners in Oklahoma. In Week 2, the Cyclones lost 44-41 to Iowa.

Those may have been the plans, but reality was quite a bit different. He and Joel Lanning shared quarterback duties in the 38-31 upset.

The win snapped two major Oklahoma streaks.

"We should have been better than that", Oklahoma defensive co-ordinator Mike Stoops said. Some of the old scars kind of repeated (themselves) again. "That falls on us as coaches".

A team that was once a safe bet for the College Football Playoff now seems to have more questions than answers.

Baker Mayfield passed for 306 yards and rushed for 57 the Sooners (4-1, 1-1). While that performance was good, it was not enough against the Cyclones.

"I'm sure I'll get comments that Iowa State is my dad or something like that", he said. ISU running back David Montgomery rushed for 55 yards and a touchdown and caught seven passes for 89 yards. McSorley completed 15 straight passes to break Kerry Collins' program record and was 25-for-34 overall. The Heisman hopeful quarterback led Oklahoma on a game-tying touchdown drive in the fourth quarter but failed to complete a fourth-and-four with 1:27 left in the game.

No. 2 Clemson 28, Wake Forest 14: Clemson, 35:05-24:55 time-of-possession advantage; Tigers outgained Demon Deacons 453-336.

Iowa State planted the Iowa state flag on the big "OU" logo in the center of Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Birth of an American Soccer Superstar: Christian Pulisic
The U.S. got its World Cup Qualifying campaign back on track in emphatic fashion, routing Panama , 4-0, at Orlando City Stadium. Altidore made it two 11 minutes later when he side-footed home an inviting low cross from Pulisic. "He did what he wanted".

NO. 5 GEORGIA 45, VANDERBILT 14 - At Nashville, Tenn., Nick Chubb ran for two touchdowns and 138 yards, and Georgia routed Vanderbilt despite missing three players from the Bulldogs' stingy defense. Will Grier threw for 366 yards and three TDs for No. 23 WVU.

NO. 4 PENN STATE 31, NORTHWESTERN 7 - At Evanston, Ill., Trace McSorley threw for 245 yards and a touchdown, Saquon Barkley ran for two scores in the second half for Penn State.

Notre Dame 33, North Carolina 10: Josh Adams ran for 118 yards, including a 73-yard touchdown dash for No. 21 Notre Dame. The Bulldogs also avenged a 17-16 loss to Vanderbilt previous year by beating the Commodores for the 20th time in the past 23 games in the series. The Sooners crushed Ohio State in Columbus. He threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to backup quarterback Tommy Stevens in the second quarter and added a 5-yard scoring run in the fourth.

"I don't think he's a third-stringer any more", Cyclones head coach Matt Campbell told FOX post-game of Kempt, who had thrown just two passes in his NCAA career prior to Saturday. John O'Korn, replacing injured starter Wilton Speight, threw three interceptions in the second half.

Auburn unleashed a powerful ground attack in its victory over Ole Miss, and Johnson was dominant. He has had this issue for three games, yet he has managed to score 11 touchdowns in those games.

"I'm very disappointed. There's not a doubt", Riley said.

It proved such a departure from all known human norms that not even Michigan State's mind-boggling 14-10 upset at Michigan could surmount it. Lanning hit 2 of 3 passes for 25 yards and carried nine times for 35 yards.

He was much sharper and more efficient in the win over the Beavers. He left in the third quarter after Travis Etienne's 1-yard touchdown run put Clemson ahead 21-0.
