Mom gets jail over refusal to vaccinate son

But Rebecca Bredow is going to jail anyway because she reneged on a deal with her ex-husband to have their 9-year-old son vaccinated.

In response, Judge McDonald reminded Bredow that she agreed to the immunizations.

"This order has taken on a life of its own, your honor, and it is my fault I have not stood up sooner and explained to the court that I'm an educated, vaccine-choice mother", she said. She refused, according to WXYZ TV in Detroit.

However, she later defied a court order to get the boy up to date with his jabs, and has been sentenced to seven days in prison as a result.

The anti-vaxxer told Judge Karen McDonald that immunizing the boy went against her religious beliefs and that she was a "passionate mother who cares deeply about her children, their health and their well-being". Her ex-husband wanted their son vaccinated, but Bredow is the primary caregiver.

House Republicans Just Voted (Again) to Outlaw Abortions After 20 Weeks
All Ohio Republicans supported the bill to ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, while all Ohio Democrats opposed it. The one of seven out of 198 countries that allows elective abortions for any reason more than halfway through pregnancy.

Anti-vaccination advocates - or anti-vaxxers - believe that immunising children exposes them to harm, and could be linked to autism.

Under Michigan law, parents are legally allowed to not get their kids vaccinated if it conflicts with their personal beliefs.

If a parent does not comply with a school's vaccination guidelines, the child is not permitted to attend school and the parent can be jailed for the pupil's truancy.

A month ago, she said that she and her son's dad consented to space out and delay getting their son vaccinated.

Child immunisation rates in MI are among the worst in the nation, ranking 43rd among the 50 USA states, according to Mlive.
