Markram, Elgar guide Proteas to accomplished start against Bangladesh

South Africa's new opening batsmen Aiden Markram received another vote of confidence yesterday as captain Faf du Plessis predicted he could have a promising future.

Kadir only played in four Tests and never hit a century but Greenidge hit 19 hundreds in a 108-Test career.

Dean Elgar managed to grab the attention from off-field news as his century propelled South Africa to 298 for 1 on Day 1 of the first Test. Elgar remained unbeaten on 128 and in the process became the leading run-scorer in Tests in 2017.

CSA and the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) had initially agreed to play four Test instead of the now scheduled three. Shakib has played 50 global matches across all formats of the game since 2016, and plays for Twenty20 teams in multiple franchise-based leagues around the world. After Test wins at home over Australia and England, Bangladesh will look to upset the Proteas in South Africa.

He then mocked Trump's assurance that this had "nothing to do with race." Just like your presidency. Kneeling during the national anthem has everything to do with race.

The 22-year-old Markram appeared to be heading for a dream start to his Test career before being dismissed on 97 when he was caught out of his crease, backing up too quickly as he attempted to help opening partner Elgar to his century.

Watch day two of the first Test between South Africa and Bangladesh, live from 8.55am on Friday on Sky Sports Cricket (channel 404) and Sky Sports Mix (channel 121).

Cricket South Africa also announced the itenary for the Indian women's cricket team tour to South Africa. "This will be a big season for the Standard Bank Proteas and a real treat for our fans", he added.

The T20i matches will all be double-headers as they will also feature the Proteas in T20 worldwide matches against the India women's team. Featuring both our men's and women's teams on the same day is going to be a very special occasion and most fitting for the women's game which is growing and attracting its own fans.
