Biafra: Senate Declares Nigeria's Unity 'Not Negotiable'

The Abuja High Court also allowed the government to designate the group as a terrorist organization.

Early on Wednesday, His younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu appealed to the Nigerian army to request for his corpse adding that several efforts to reach the IPOB leader or know his whereabouts have been futile.

It gave these reasons for backing IPOB's categorisation as a terrorist organisation, maintaining, however, that not even the Fulani herdsmen reported to have clashed with and killed farmers, raped women and destroyed farm lands could be placed on the same level with IPOB which it said had carved out a territory of its own within Nigeria.

The senate on Tuesday declared that Nigeria's unity is not negotiable. Troops engaged in a security operation codenamed "Python Dance" clashed with IPOB members.

The statement said: "Ever since the brutal assault that left 28 persons dead inside his compound, including two of his cousins, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, along with his parents, His Royal Majesty Eze Sir Israel Kanu and Ugoeze Sally Nmeme Kanu, has not been seen". The Army stated that he was on the run and subsequently backtracked on the "terrorist group" declaration.

AAA: TN gas prices on a steady decline
Prices are expected to "slowly drift lower as inventories slowly improve", senior analyst Patrick DeHaan said. After topping out close to $2.70 a gallon, gasoline prices have been going down over the last two weeks.

There have been fears that those who stood as sureties for his bail, one of them Senator Enyinnaya Abaaribe, risk jail terms in an event Kanu fails to appear when his case comes up in court next month. The Army had been slammed for overreaching its powers over the move.

Dan-Ali made this remark when he visited the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, in NY, the United States of America, Prof Tijjani Bande.

Kanu is now on bail pending the resumption of his trial in Abuja next month on charges of treasonable felony.

Nigeria had equally accused both the governments of France and the United Kingdom of being in support and as well as funding IPOB's activities in Nigeria but the two governments of France and UK denied the allegation.

The 50-year-old who holds Nigerian and British nationalities is pushing for a separate republic of Biafra almost 50 years after a previous declaration of independence sparked a civil war which left more than a million people dead.
