A senior home ministry official in New Delhi, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that no Hindu in Myanmar or Bangladesh affected by the violence had approached Indian authorities."At this juncture we have no SOS calls from Hindus", said the official. The affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court stated that there are some 43,000 Rohingya refugees in India now.

He was also asked why Myanmar considers them outsiders when generations of Rohingyas have been living in the country. The two boys, aged nine and ten, waved goodbye to their parents and left for school in their village in Myanmar's Rakhine State.

He said Rohingya may qualify for accessing the trust fund the ASEAN has developed and that it is the Secretariat that must approve if there is an initiative to use the trust fund for irregular movement to help them.

Protesters, some carrying sticks and metal bars, threw petrol bombs and about 200 police were forced to disperse them by shooting into the air, a witness said, adding that he saw some injured people.

Police officers arrived as the crowd grew near the jetty, while Buddhist monks also tried to calm the mob, but people began to hurl "stones and Molotov (cocktails) at the riot police" the report said.

The government says about 400 people have been killed in the fighting.

No aid workers were hurt, a spokeswoman for the International Committee of the Red Cross said.

"(The) More disturbing part is that there is an organised influx of illegal immigrants from Myanmar through agents and touts facilitating (movement of) illegal immigrant Rohingya into India via Benapole-Haridaspur (West Bengal), Hilli (WB) and Sonamora (Tripura). "They should take them back", she said.

Bangladesh's army was ordered on Wednesday to take a bigger role helping hundreds of thousands of Rohingya who have fled violence in Myanmar, amid warnings it could take six months to register the new refugees.

The UN human rights chief has described the systematic attacks against the Rohingya minority by Myanmar's security forces as a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing".

Nearly 40% of all Rohingya villages in Myanmar's Rakhine State are now empty, a government spokesperson confirmed earlier this week. This prompted criticism on Monday from fellow Nobel peace laureate Malala Yousafzai and Muslim countries in Asia targeting Suu Kyi.

"With so many influential leaders gathered in NY, the next step should be work on a U.N. General Assembly resolution condemning the abuses and a Security Council resolution to impose targeted sanctions and an arms embargo on the commanders leading this brutal campaign" he said.

Subsequent operations by the Myanmar security forces in the State resulted in a large outflow of people.

"Anyone can report content to us if they think it violates our standards", the Facebook spokesperson added.

Military chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said his forces had handled the situation as best they could and he urged the internally displaced, majority Buddhist, to go home.

But her speech "did not present the real picture" of the Rohingya situation, said Bangladesh's information minister Hasanul Haq, who has been briefing reporters on the crisis.
