Steelers vs. Browns: Five reasons to be excited for AFC North opener

Cleveland Browns rookie defensive end Myles Garrett will miss the first two games of the season, and possibly more, with an ankle injury, reported.

Former Florida Gators and Browns cornerback Joe Haden, who was cut last week and signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, gave a rave review of Garrett on Wednesday, according to Cabot.

If serious, the injury to Garrett would be a devastating blow for the rebuilding Browns, who went 1-15 last season and are counting on the 6-foot-4, 272-pounder to improve a defense that ranked 31st overall.

Kessler started in April and the No. 1 QB before being replaced by Brock Osweiler after 9 training camp practices.

The 6-foot-4, 275-pound Garrett was limited by a left ankle sprain previous year at Texas A&M.

The team said Thursday he has a high ankle sprain and his status will be updated in a "couple" of weeks.

The Browns-Steelers opening weekend match-up will have plenty of storylines to it. Despite a wealth of natural talent, Garrett finished the 2016 season with just 8.5 sacks and didn't know the kind of explosiveness he was known for.

"Big Ben!" Garrett told Randy Moss on April 28 in an ESPN interview.

If Garrett can not play against Pittsburgh, Carl Nassib figures to be the next man up, with Nate Orchard taking his spot as the third end in the rotation. He knows how the injury happened and emphasized it could happen to anyone. It looked for a while like the Browns were headed for a winless season, but they toughed out a 20-17 victory over San Diego in the season's penultimate week to prevent it. But he has also been one of the league's most-frequently fined - eight times - players and been suspended twice for questionable hits during his career.

Continuing last year's tradition I will continue to note whether or not the Browns are favored going into a given contest. "That's the thing that really helped me feel good about Big Ben (Roethlisberger) and Pouncey and Antonio Brown wanting me to come here".

"The excitement, the attention to detail, sense of urgency, all those things are turned up a little bit", he said. "So when you're trying to get him down, just try to rake the ball out when you're doing it".

NB: No. Pittsburgh is a Super Bowl contending team, and Cleveland is still fighting to get out of the bottom 10. The team goes on, and Jackson and the team will try every bit as hard to win Sunday without Garrett as they would have tried to win with him.
