The minister has also chose to hold meetings of the Defence Acquisiton Council, the highest decision making body on defence procurement in the ministry which is chaired by the minister every fortnight.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold daily meetings with all three service chiefs and the defence secretary to ensure quick decision making in her ministry.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), is the highest decision making body on defence procurement.

Sitharaman added that the fulfilment of the requirements of the defence forces was her first priority as the Defence Minister.

The second woman defence minister after Indira Gandhi was in Goa and Uttarlai airbase in Barmer in Rajasthan at the weekend.

Sitharaman, who formally took charge on Wednesday last week, has hit the ground running as she has to ensure that the pace of momentum of operational preparedness of the armed forces is sustained.

She refused to comment on army chief General Bipin Rawat's recent statement that India must be prepared for two-front war.
