The other driver in the crash, a department of corrections officer, was also killed.

Three people in Florida, including a sheriff's deputy, have been killed in vehicle crashes as Hurricane Irma closed in with high winds and lashing rain, officials said Sunday.

Sheriff's Deputy Julie Bridges, a 13-year veteran of the force, had been stationed in an evacuation shelter overnight and was driving home at about 6 pick up more supplies when the crash occurred, Sheriff Arnold Lanier said. She was planning on returning to work another shift this morning when she was killed. That person was a department of corrections officer.

No other vehicles were involved and both Bridges and Ossman were the sole occupants of their vehicles, police said.

Hardee County was in a curfew at the time of the accident.
