India arrests Kashmiri resistance leaders in Srinagar

The leaders include Shia cleric and politician Agha Syed Hassan al-Mousvi in central Budgam and Ghulam Nabi Sumji in southern Bijbehara towns.

The NIA on Wednesday conducted raids at 11 locations in Srinagar and 5 in Delhi in connection with the Funding case.

NIA has recently conducted many raids in connection with separatist leaders.

Malik was detained at his office a day after he threatened to march to the National Investigation Agency in New Delhi after separatists were arrested for their role in stone pelting in the Valley.

Sources said that people in hundreds started marching towards the residence of Hasan after, they accused NIA slueths of misbehaving with the family and harassment. "A raid was also conducted at a premise at Gurugram".

The arrest of Malik and the Mirwaiz's house arrest came a day after the separatist leaders announced they would go to New Delhi to court arrest before the agency headquarters on September 9 in protest against the anti-terror agency's crackdown in the Valley.

The NIA spokesman said offices of the Chartered Accountants of leading Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who is already under NIA custody, and residences of cross-LoC traders were also searched. During searches fixed deposits of Rs 1 crore and "incriminating documents" and "suspicious financial records" and electronic devices were seized, the NIA said. "(The) basic goal of the raid spree being carried out by NIA is to instil fear among pro-freedom leadership and people of Kashmir", they said. Among the arrested separatist leaders includes Gelani's son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Altaf Funtoosh.

On Friday a photo journalist from south Kashmir was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on the charge that he was involved in incidents of "stone pelting".

The case was registered on issues of raising, receiving and collecting funds through various illegal means, including hawala channels, for funding such activities.
