Florida State QB Deondre Francois to miss remainder of season

Alabama's defense came up big when it counted Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Terrell Lewis (24) and defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick (29) react after a stop against the Florida State Seminoles in the second quarter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. His 82 receiving yards give him 1,896 career receiving yards, good enough for fifth best all-time at Alabama.

Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois suffered a season-ending injury to his left knee in the fourth quarter of the Seminoles game against Alabama. Hurts found Ridley in the end zone for the two-point conversion, putting the Tide up 21-7 with 1:41 left in the third quarter.

"We'll get the diagnosis, and I love him, and we'll figure out what we've got to do from here".

The sophomore was injured during the Seminoles' season-opening 24-7 loss to Alabama on Saturday. Cosentino attempted nine passes last season.

The Alabama special teams forced a fumble on a kickoff as well as blocking a field goal and a punt, while converting on three field goal attempts in the decisive victory.

The Tide defense strengthened throughout the game, as Florida State managed 108 first-quarter yards but only 77 in the second quarter and just 48 in the third.

Hurts completed 10 of 18 passes for 96 yards, and he rushed 15 times for 55 yards. "They've got a great defensive team, and it took everything that we had in all facets of the game".

On the same play that Florida State was called for pass interference, Alabama's sideline was hit with a delay of game penalty.

Even after the loss, the Seminoles can certainly climb back into the CFP race, depending on Francois' health. The Seminoles responded by moving the ball 90 yards on 11 plays, capping off the drive with a three-yard touchdown pass to put FSU up 7-3 with 13:41 to go in the second quarter. Including a 53-yard touchdown in which he shook FSU true freshman cornerback Stanford Samuels III with a classic stutter step, before racing past him to haul in a ideal strike from Hurts.

Coach Jimbo Fisher said Blackman will get the nod when the Seminoles host Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday in Tallahassee, Fla. An instinctive and highly physical player, Fitzpatrick was seemingly always around the ball, delivering monstrous hits, racing downfield to cover kicks and knifing off the edge to block a Ricky Aguayo field-goal attempt as the final seconds ticked off the clock in the second quarter to secure Alabama's 10-7 lead into halftime. "It was not a spectacular showing, but at the end of the day, I feel like we wore them down".

Shaun Dion Hamilton led Alabama with eight tackles, including a sack of Deondre Francois on fourth down in the first quarter.

Francois was 19-for-32 for 210 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions against the tough Alabama defense.

Alabama will open its home schedule this Saturday against Fresno State.
