Both teams had blocked field goals returned for touchdowns.

With a new head coach and the promise that the program is already on the rebound with its $10 million locker room, big wins in recruiting for the future and some good-looking talent for the present, the focus was on Texas and Tom Herman.

Tyrrell Pigrome passed for two touchdowns and ran for another before leaving with an injury on Saturday, and Maryland stunned No. 23 Texas, 51-41. A subsequent touchdown by sophomore tailback Jake Funk ended it.

"It was one of the craziest games I have been in", Johnson said.

Ty Johnson rushed for 132 yards and a a touchdown for Maryland.

Senior linebackers Jermaine Carter Jr. and Shane Cockerille (Gilman), as well as junior safety Darnell Savage Jr., led Maryland with seven tackles each.

Pigrome was responsible for Maryland's first two touchdowns of the game, with his 25-yard run tying the score at seven apiece and his 20-yard pass to D.J. Moore giving Maryland a 14-7 lead with 3:09 remaining in the first quarter. With so many problems becoming so shamefully and publicly visible on Saturday against Maryland, there is no reason to expect the Longhorns will correct everything in the course of the next week, or even two weeks. Him getting hurt was awful , but it gave us a lot of time after his recovery to get our timing down and a relationship built". On their first possession, the Hoosiers moved ahead 7-3 on 18-yard touchdown pass from Lagow to Thomas.

Texas's Holton Hill returned the favor by blocking Adam Greene's attempt and returning it 65 yards to the house. The Terps moved the ball to the Texas 38 before getting pushed back to the 47. Defensive lineman Jessie Aniebonam got injured as well in the game. Hill converted a third-and-19 pass before running 3 yards for the crucial touchdown. Had he held on, it would have been a pick-six.

Pick sixes, kick and punt return touchdowns are always exciting plays in football, but aren't that out of the ordinary.

Then Maryland spoiled the Longhorns unveiling - in emphatic fashion. The Maryland Terrapins came back on the very next drive. A 42-yard field goal went wide left. It's the first Maryland win against a ranked team since 2010, and the first time the Terps have beaten a ranked team in an opener ever.

Rowland had another FG opportunity, but Maryland blocked it and returned the missed field goal for a TD. For example, when the Longhorns scored to bring things to 30-20, they went for a two-point conversion and failed.

The Texas defense gave up almost 500 yards of offense to Maryland, with Terps quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome accounting for 175 yards passing with two touchdowns and 64 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The score of 30-14 actually seemed manageable considering how bad things spiraled out of control in the middle of the first quarter and full second quarter.
