Dianna Van Horn is a Red Cross volunteer from Florida. The Red Cross has mobilized a massive relief effort to staff many shelters and provide food and comfort.

"This relief fund is a way for Northern Colorado and Bohemian Foundation to help the thousands of individuals who have suffered losses from Hurricane Harvey", said Pat Stryker, founder of Bohemian Foundation. Emergency shelters are also open in Louisiana, and are filling up fast.

Once trained, the head of the Southeast Mississippi Chapter for the agency says volunteers could be deployed to areas that were struck by Hurricane Harvey. "We need volunteers in Texas and then, because so many of our volunteers will be deployed, we need volunteers to step up here", she said.

There are enough shelter supplies, such as cots and blankets, for more than 50,000 people in Texas.

"Many people bemoan the rise of the multinational firm and the decline of other types of stores", Terjesen said. More than 250,000 meals and snacks have been served since the storm began. We've distributed 26,000 so far and this number will grow as people are able to return home.

Americans across the country can help by giving donations to trusted organizations such as the Houston and Corpus Christi Food Banks, the Salvation Army, local churches, and others.

In addition, the Red Cross has prepositioned blood products in Houston ahead of the storm to help ensure adequate blood supply is maintained over the weekend.

Suffolk County has set up an online donation platform in conjunction with the American Red Cross of Long Island, County Executive Steve Bellone announced Thursday.

The donation by the "Gravity" star, who owns a house nearby Austin, will benefit the American Red Cross in its ongoing effort to help those impacted by the flooding and destruction along Texas' Gulf Coast.

"I love helping people", Charlynn English said.

The Disaster Relief Fund is consistently depleted every year as it usually responds to over 100 smaller disasters each year, meaning it is unable to put aside money to prepare for these catastrophic storms. I understand the generosity of the American public.
