No. 2 Ohio State pulls away from IN in 49-21 win

No. 2 Ohio State senior quarterback JT Barrett entered Thursday's season opener at IN on the verge of history, as he was just 5 yards away from breaking Art Schlichter's school record for total yards gained IN a career.

Head coach Urban Meyer of the Ohio State Buckeyes looks on while playing the Michigan State Spartans at Spartan Stadium on September 29, 2012 in East Lansing, Michigan.

But then, the inevitable came.

"I just thought of it as bringing my city up", he said.

Quarterback J.T. Barrett wasn't quite as sharp as some expected the senior to be but he still posted solid numbers (284 yards, three touchdowns passing plus another score on the ground) as he broke in several new receivers for OSU.

The last time these two teams got together in Bloomington, it took a superhuman 274-yard, three-touchdown attempt from present Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott to fend off the Hoosiers at a 34-27 barnburner two seasons past.

Tegray Scales led Indiana's defense with 12 tackles and nine solo stops, while Marcelino Ball made 11 tackles with an assist on a tackle for loss.

-WR J.T. Barrett is the focal point of an offense that has designs on being more dynamic this year.

On their first possession, the Hoosiers moved ahead 7-3 on 18-yard touchdown pass from Lagow to Thomas. He rushed for 1,122 yards and seven touchdowns in 2016.

On a spectacular, almost cloudless late summer night in Southern Indiana, the Hoosiers led the powerful Buckeyes for almost 31 minutes, from the middle of the first quarter until the middle of the third. Lagow found his No. 1 target down the sideline for a 19-yard gain on short yardage.

Here's What Theresa May Thinks China Should Do Regarding North Korea Crisis
North Korea launched an intermediate-range Hwasong-12 ballistic rocket that flew over the Japanese island on Hokkaido this week. Before the meeting, May described Japan as "the UK's closest security partner in Asia" and a "like-minded partner".

Here's Cobb's first catch that sent draft experts insane. However, IU still has not won a bowl game since the 1991 Copper Bowl.

"This was a good experience for him", Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "The connection between Simmie and I previous year wasn't what it is now. Him getting hurt was awful, but it gave us a lot of time after his recovery to get our timing down and a relationship built".

The Buckeyes bounced back in the second half with a run-heavy attack that doomed the Hoosiers.

IU's offensive line did an OK job pass protecting during the first half, but it eventually wore down against an elite Ohio State defensive line with next-level talent across the board. With many returning players, Ohio State football is regarded as one of the teams that could break into the CFP.

"Basically, you address one thing and it exposes another", Allen said about the late game slip. "We couldn't afford to do that".

Barrett came out strong in the third quarter, rushing for a two-yard touchdown on the second drive out of halftime, which gave the Buckeyes a 20-14 lead over the Hoosiers.

The wins would be three in the non-conference season against Virginia, Florida International and Georgia Southern and then four in conference play against Maryland, Illinois, Rutgers and Purdue.

He makes his FAU coaching debut Friday night, when the Owls play host to Navy.

They forced two turnovers, and stopped the Hoosier run-pass option that worked well in the first half.

Kickoff for the game is 8:00 p.m. ET.
