Olympic Runner Found Dead In Arizona Swimming Pool

Staff members at the Center Court Condominiums called 911 about 7.30am on Monday after seeing a man at the bottom of the pool.

Officials do not believe any foul play was involved in Torrence's death, but a medical examiner is still working to determine the cause of death. After helping a US team set an indoor world record in the 4x800 meter, Torrence set a new USA indoor record in the 1,000-meter with a time of 2:16.76. After news of his death spread, there has been an outpour of love for Torrence from the running community.

On Twitter, USA Track and Field described the news as "devastating", while New Zealand's double Olympic medallist Nick Willis wrote that "nobody was more dedicated to their running" than Torrence.

Khosrowshahi is an Iranian-born immigrant whose parents found their way to the U.S. in 1978 following the Iranian revolution. He graduated from Brown University in Rhode Island, United States in 1991 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Torrence was born in Japan but raised in California and ran track at Cal-Berkeley.

Gabriele Grunewald, the former national indoor champion in the 3,000-meter who represented the U.S.at the 2014 world indoor championships, tweeted, "I am absolutely broken hearing about David Torrence". In 2016, he switched allegiance to his mother's home nation of Peru and reached the Olympic final, where he finished 15th. The young man always spoke his mind and strongly rejected taking vitamin injections, LetsRun noted.

"Today we lost an wonderful athlete and an even greater friend", Kyle Merber, another elite runner and a friend of Torrence, said via Twitter.

Torrence participated in an anti-doping investigation into a coach who was arrested last summer.
