Naby Keïta undergoes Liverpool medical

It is set to bring to an end the Premier League giants' summer-long pursuit of Guinea worldwide Keita, who has been long earmarked as one of Jurgen Klopp's main targets.

The Keita transfer saga has taken many twists and turns this summer, but Liverpool finally have their man, after paying a club record transfer fee for the midfielder.

The 22-year-old was previously wanted by Liverpool but Jurgen Klopp had several bids turned down for the Guinea worldwide.

Widespread reports have claimed the Reds will pay a premium on top of a £48million buy-out clause which comes into effect next year to bring the Guinea worldwide to Anfield. The Guinean will become a Reds player on July 1, 2018.

The 22-year-old completed a medical in Wilmslow on Monday morning.

The fee will break the club's transfer record, which was set earlier this summer with the £36.9m signing of Mohamed Salah.

Keita was said to be keen on a move to Liverpool and so there's no reason he wouldn't be at least equally up for a move to Catalonia.

Keita proved to be one of the standout stars of the Bundesliga last season as he helped newly-promoted Leipzig to a shock second place.

Reports have also claimed Liverpool could make a £60m bid for Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar before Thursday's transfer deadline.
