The CBI alleges that the man was shot dead because Ram Rahim believed that he was behind an anonymous letter of a sadhvi who levelled rape allegations against the godman.

A large number of followers of the Dera chief have arrived in Panchkula and Chandigarh threatening the law and order situation.

It was reported that CBI booked the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in nearly 15-years ago in December 2002 for allegedly raping two female followers inside the Dera. Thousands of Dera supporters have reached Panchkula and the town appears to be a place under siege. Dera followers are being relocated from sensitive areas. He has been accused by a former female follower of raping her a few times inside the sprawling Dera campus on the outskirts of Sirsa town, 260 km from Chandigarh.

Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora said his forces are taking steps to ensure minimum damage to human life and properties in case of the court verdict going against Ram Rahim. About 160 companies of central forces have also been called in, including the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB.

"We are dealing with women and children and old alike, but we have sufficient police force including women to deal with them", Sandhu said. The Haryana government is also keeping a close eye on social media to prevent spread of rumours.

Rape case verdict involving Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, will be announced tomorrow on 25th August.
