"It's not a form of anything other than me being myself, '" Del Rio said. But he did explain himself privately to Raiders coach Jack Del Rio - who then gave a misleading account of Lynch's past actions to reporters. "I told him I very strongly believe in standing for the national anthem. You do your thing OK?' So that's a non-issue for me". "So, that's a non-issue for me", Del Rio said.

Without hearing from Lynch, it's impossible to say for sure what he intended to say by sitting out the anthem, or what he meant when he explained himself to his coach afterward.

Marshawn Lynch made the biggest news of what otherwise was a routine preseason N.F.L. game by sitting during the national anthem before the Oakland Raiders' 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.

Lynch, who rose to National Football League stardom as a member of the Super Bowl winning Seattle Seahawks, initially retired after the 2015 season before applying for reinstatement.

Lynch didn't speak publicly about the gesture after the game, which was his first since returning from retirement. While that may not have been Del Rio's intent, that's a far cry from some of the more supportive rhetoric the 49ers gave Colin Kaepernick when he began his protest.

According to hospital records, 7 children died on Friday, 23 died on Thursday, 9 on Wednesday, and 12 on Tuesday, 9 on Monday. The Hindustan Times newspaper on Saturday described chaotic scenes at the hospital as oxygen supply was disrupted.

In an appearance on Conan O'Brien's show past year, Lynch was asked for his thoughts on Kaepernick's national anthem protest.

In April, Lynch, along with former teammates Chris Avril and Michael Bennet, traveled to Haiti to help build schools and homes capable of enduring natural disasters, according to Seahawks Wire.

Kaepernick remains unsigned following last year's refusal to stand during the national anthem.

"With what's going on, I'd rather see him take a knee than stand up, put his hands up and get murdered", Lynch said. "And if you're really not racist then you won't see what he's doing as a threat to America, but just addressing a problem that we have".
