Ryan Tannehill to Have Season-Ending ACL Surgery

The Miami Dolphins were dealt a devastating blow to their chances of making the National Football League playoffs for a second straight season last week with quarterback Ryan Tannehill going down with a non-contact knee injury. Tannehill should be back in time to start next year, but for 2017, the Dolphins' season lies in the arm of Jay Cutler.

Tannehill left the Dolphins' practice on Thursday after his knee appeared to buckle in a non-contact situation.

Cutler, who parted with the Chicago Bears after eight seasons, postponed retirement and his TV job, signing a $10 million, one-year contract.

Tannehill chose to avoid surgery after last season's injury.

The eighth overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Texas A&M, Tannehill had started every game, 77 in all, until December's injury.

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill (17) throws the ball during training camp at Baptist Health Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University. Starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill and starting linebacker Raekwon McMillan will miss the entire year with the same devastating injury.
