Average gas prices are up in Omaha

A year ago, the national average was $2.12 a gallon.

That's according to a weekly survey by AAA Northeast on Monday.

Including the change in gas prices in IL during the past week, prices Monday were 7 cents higher than one year ago and 4 cents higher than a month ago.

Now, AAA predicts that gas prices are on an upward trend - with the state's average price for a gallon of gas 14 cents higher at the beginning of August than a month ago. Americans are driving more miles, increasing demand at the pump, and USA oil prices recently returned to the $50-per-barrel mark.

Other areas in metro Detroit with their current gas prices include Ann Arbor at #2.44 per gallon, down five cents, Flint at $2.32 a gallon, down 13.6 cents, and Toledo at $2.21 a gallon, down 7.4 cents.

Rising gas prices in Roseville continue to push travel costs higher heading into final summer road trips.

In Missouri, prices rose 4.6 cents per gallon for the week ended yesterday to $2.11 per gallon. The region remains expensive, however, with MI posting a state average that's 5 cents above the national average. "Unfortunately, motorists are likely to see gasoline prices continue to rise in more places than prices fall, but it's not all bad news- gasoline prices nationally continue to hold somewhat near their summer lows, something that wasn't at all expected earlier this year". In June, prices hit a low of around $2.23 a gallon.
