Jury Selection Begins In Taylor Swift Groping Trial

Jury selection will begin Monday in Denver for the civil suit between Taylor Swift and a former radio DJ, stemming from a 2013 incident in which the pop singer alleges she was groped by the host. Swift's attorney Douglas Baldridge was also present.

Swift, 27, will testify, says Reuters, that Mueller slipped his hand under her dress and grabbed her bare bottom as they posed during a meet-and-greet session before her June 2, 2013, concert in Denver.

"He reached under my skirt and grabbed my a** right when I was having to pose for a photo, and it felt intentional that that would be the time he would choose to do it", she claimed during her deposition about a photo taken with Mueller and his girlfriend at the time.

In depositions that came out a year ago, Swift said she felt "violated" by the alleged incident.

Mueller also sued Swift for two counts of slander, but a judge threw out those claims because the statute of limitations had passed.

Mueller sued Swift, claiming her false accusations did irreparable harm to his professional reputation and resulted in his wrongful termination. For his part, Mueller has admitted that he had touched Swift during the encounter, but insists that it was accidental.

The trial is being held in U.S. District Court because the Mueller and Swift live in separate states and the matter involves a claim for damages higher than $75,000.

Aside from her on-again, maybe off-again feud with Katy Perry, pop star Taylor Swift has had a relatively quiet year by her standards.

Hoping the case serves as "an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts", Swift has vowed that if she wins the case, she will donate any money she received to "charitable organisations dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard".

Both parties are expected to cite a photo capturing the alleged incident, obtained by TMZ, as evidence of Mueller's guilt or innocence.

Mueller said Swift was cordial as he and his girlfriend left.

One month later, Swift countersued Mueller for assault and battery.

Former radio host David Mueller, 55, was in court and arrived with his lawyer Gabriel McFarland.

Potential jurors were asked whether they are fans of either Mueller or Swift, including if they had ever seen Swift in concert, downloaded or purchased her music, or attended the 2013 concert.

The selection process could last through Tuesday, with opening statements to follow.

But if you're a Swift fan-or even if you're taking up for Mueller-don't expect to rock any supportive garb in the courtroom setting.

Mueller denied the allegation and says he asked that they call the police. Members of her staff tracked down Mr. Mueller and Ms. Melcher in the Pepsi Center and escorted them out. Ms. Mueller's attorney says his client may have been misidentified after someone else touched Swift. The trial is expected to last nine days; likely until August 17.
