Northwestern professor, Oxford employee surrender for fatal stabbing

A Northwestern University Professor and an Oxford employee, both wanted for murder, were taken into custody in Oakland, California Friday evening. Warren, a resident at Somerville College in England, a part of the Oxford University Network, was arrested in San Francisco, Farrell said.

They have been accused of fatally stabbing Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 26, in Lathem's apartment in Chicago on July 27.

Speaking with USA Today, Mr Guglielmi said: "Police arrived at Lathem's apartment shortly after an employee at the building's front desk notified authorities of an anonymous call about a crime in the professor's apartment".

A spokesman for the university said that he had been banned from the campus and placed on administrative leave.

The deputy marshal said Lathem had never been arrested before and that people in that situation usually panic and make decisions they normally wouldn't make.

Authorities said that Prof Lathem had sent a video message to friends and family members apologising for the crime.

The pair are slated to face a judge in California before they are likely extradited to Chicago, where they will be questioned by homicide detectives. He declined to elaborate on their relationship.

US Navy ends three-day search for lost sailor aboard USS Stethem
Early last month, the Pentagon sent the Stethem near to disputed Triton Island in the Paracel archipelago in the South China Sea. For the Navy, this was the third man-overboard search this summer, and the second sailor lost at sea.

Somerville College has confirmed that Mr Warren has since been suspended from his post, which he held at the college for eight years.

Police said Lathem had a personal relationship with Cornell-Duranleau, who moved to Chicago from MI after receiving his cosmetology licence. In the meantime, the #University Of Oxford was sending Warren correspondence, urging him to turn himself in and deal with the consequences, according to the Independent.

"They knew the seriousness of the charges, the seriousness of the case and how important it was that he be brought into custody, not have to live a life on the run", Conroy said.

Mr Warren was reported missing from his home in Longcot by his family on July 25.

"Cornell-Duranleau, who suffered multiple lacerations, was pronounced dead at the scene".

Warren was arrested in San Francisco while Lathem was arrested in Oakland, US Marshals inspector Ed Farrel told the Chicago Tribune.
