Hall of Famer Smith visits Browns' rookie Garrett at camp

"I think I beat him on the last rush", Garrett said of that play. "That's a tribute to his humbleness and his upbringing by his parents". Garrett said that Smith told him he was too slow off the ball.

On hand at practice Wednesday was legendary pass rusher and Hall-of-Famer Bruce Smith, who watched Garrett - whom he has helped tutor recently - from the sidelines.

"But as this process unfolds, he will understand how critical it is that every single snap, every single play, particularly when you're playing at home and the offense can't hear the snap count, that can be the difference between getting a sack and a forced fumble or just getting a hit on the quarterback", he said.

As luck would have it, Garrett would run with the first team on a day where Thomas was practicing-he has been given routine days off heading into the regular season-and Smith was in town as a special guest of Jackson's, working exclusively with the defensive line. Garrett showed some of his speed and athleticism with a "sack" against Thomas, which got everyone's attention. "He's got an athleticism, an ability to bend and run that few players in the National Football League have, and the way he works at it, the way he analyzes his game after every practice, the way he studies, it's easy to understand why he was the consensus No. 1 pick".

No. 1 is now working with the ones in Browns training camp, and he proved why by beating the player who might be the No. 1 left tackle in the NFL. I think he's doing an wonderful job. "He's extremely bright and understanding of the points you're trying to give him and I'm excited to watch him out there". Going against Thomas every day will only make the real games easier.

Coldplay's Chris Martin performs emotional tribute to Chester Bennington
Mike Shinoda and Joe Hahn of Linkin Park , as well as Ryan Shuck - who comprised Dead By Sunrise with Bennington - gave eulogies. Following his death, Coldplay shared a video of Linkin Park performing their new song "One More Light" for the first time.

"I know I saw a blur going around me", Jackson added. "(Thomas) can teach him how to be a dominant player much quicker if he talks to him and communicates with him".

"It's not going to take him long to figure this game out", he stated.

"I think some of his teammates were wondering, 'Coach, when are you guys gonna put him up there?"

Well, Garrett's time has come. What are you doing?' " Jackson said.

Coach Hue Jackson said it was mere coincidence that Smith happened to be at practice on the day Garrett moved up.
