Former OU WR Sterling Shepard suffers apparent leg injury

Former OU WR Sterling Shepard suffers apparent leg injury

"We'll see how he responds to treatment and we'll go from there", McAdoo said.

Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard had to be carted off the field at Wednesday's practice and a report that he was in tears at the time likely led many to fear the worst for the second-year wideout. Shepard was reportedly in tears exciting on the cart with the training staff. He finished his OU career as the No. 2 receiver in program history, totaling 3,482 yards on 233 receptions.

The immediate diagnosis is a low-ankle sprain, according to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

Shepard is coming off an outstanding rookie campaign with the Giants.

Seahawks' Kam Chancellor Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension
Chancellor was coming up on the final year of a five-year, $29.323 million deal he signed back in 2013. Any wounds from that decision were healed when Chancellor was voted a team captain last season.

Before taking the practice field Wednesday, Shepard took the time to wish his mother a happy birthday on Instagram.

The team focused on improving the team's offense, which struggled heavily last season.

Shepard was poised to be a starter once again this season alongside Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandon Marshall.

With McAdoo describing it was a "basketball-type" ankle injury, it would seem to indicate a low sprain as opposed to a high sprain - which would be more good news for Shepard and the Giants. Behind Shepard on the wide receiver depth chart is unproven talent. Among the other options are veteran Dwayne Harris, who was the team's primary return man last season, and three undrafted rookie free agents including former Florida State receiver Travis Rudolph.
