SDCC Announcement: Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One Trailer

Ready Player One's plot synopsis: based on the book by Ernest Cline, "In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place".

"I never thought we'd be able to make this movie, because we'd need someone like Steven Spielberg to direct it".

For those unfamiliar, Ready Player One centers around the main character Wade Watts (played by Tye Sheridan) who spends his time in a virtual world known as OASIS. He's STEVEN FREAKING SPIELBERG!

The director of E. T. has described the book as "the flashback at the same time as the flash-forward to the most unbelievable a decade in which I was very involved, in the 1980s". Could you spot all the pop-culture references in the trailer?

With the exceptions of the classics "The Last Starfighter" - which I'd argue is less about gamers and more about combating aliens - and "WarGames" - same argument, just replace aliens with Soviet Russia - gamer films have garnered mostly negative reviews. Maybe. One day. The demographic is changing and hopefully the stereotype will too.

Mattis: 'I think Baghdadi's alive'
Pentagon officials have said that Baghdadi no longer is involved in the Islamic State's day-to-day operations. It is rumored, though, that Baghdadi travels throughout IS-held areas in Iraq and Syria.

Cline, who also wrote the cult classic movie Fanboys, has always been obsessed with 1980s nerd culture.

"I grew up watching and studying the films of this man and the student", for its part, said Ernie Cline.

Presenting his upcoming sci-fi film at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego on Friday, the acclaimed director addressed what has recently been a recurring topic for him. He grew up on Spielberg's films, which informed how he evolved as a writer.

We got our first look at the world of Spielberg's Ready Player One in mid-July when Entertainment Weekly published a photo that magically brought the world of the book to life.
