Jada Pinkett Smith: 'I was a drug dealer'

Jada Pinkett Smith: 'I was a drug dealer'

Like Melissa McCarthy in "Bridesmaids", Haddish steals this film from her big-name co-stars: Queen Latifah, Regina Hall and Jada Pinkett Smith. Haddish in particular is Girls Trip's secret weapon, a dervish of bad judgment and loud opinions who carries most scenes away with her.

A rude-and-crude joy, to be sure, but a joy nonetheless.

Hart actually makes a split-second cameo (as himself) in Lee's new comedy Girls Trip, which has Lee's characteristic fingerprints - a breezy, bawdy, freewheeling ensemble piece (with a well-earned R rating) about friendship and its travails, this time with female leads.

While much of the storyline is dedicated to Ryan (Hall), the successful author who appears to have it all to the public - her friends are all dealing with issues in their own lives. She also credited her mother for changing the life she was living by getting her out of Baltimore. After being tapped to speak at the Essence Festival in New Orleans, she invites three friends along for a weekend of sharing, caring and boozing, topped with guest turns from the likes of Common and Sean Combs. Meanwhile, Sasha is trying to hide money problems, as her blog, Sasha's Secrets, isn't paying enough of the bills of late.

"It's important for women to see that", Haddish said. Way too long - 30 minutes too long at least. Girls Trip is smart, sweet, absolutely filthy and steadfastly comforting.

Before its tale is told, expect a real friendship crisis, as well as some well-executed heartfelt moments.

Director Lee ("Scary Movie 5", "Barbershop: The Next Cut") was smart to incorporate the Mardi Gras vibe of the Essence Festival into his movie, with crowd scenes and cameos by Mariah Carey, Ne-Yo, Faith Evans, Morris Chestnut, Gabrielle Union and MC Lyte, all playing themselves.

Pence restates Trump pledge to move embassy to Jerusalem
This came as welcome news given that Trump signed a six-month waiver last month to keep the embassy in Tel Aviv. The militant Sunnis led by ISIS, the militant Shi'ites led by Iran.

Girls Trip was directed by Malcolm D. Lee and produced by Will Packer on a $28 million budget.

All the women of Girls Trip get their time to shine, but one member of the Posse completely steals the show.

Hall ("When the Bough Breaks") is a likeable central figure, and she's believable as this woman who other woman would aspire to be.

Previously, Pinkett Smith also talked about her rough upbringing and how it shaped the way she chose to raise her children, Jaden and Willow - without worrying about those who disapprove.

ATLANTA, GA - JULY 11: Actress Jada Pinkett Smith and Sheree Whitfield at "Girls Trip" Atlanta special screening at SCADshow on July 11, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. "It wasn't that at all", she said. Veteran actor Larenz Tate and Kofi Siriboe (Queen Sugar) are likely to solicit audience oooohs and aaahhhs as well.

While the two-hour-plus running time means that not all jokes stand up, there's an impressive hit rate, from an absinthe-fueled club night to the running joke of Kate Walsh's white assistant trying painfully to ingratiate herself with the women via Urban Dictionary-sourced terminology.

Rough Night came and went in a blur of indifference, and this new comedy on paper could nearly be the same movie-only with black sorority sisters and no corpse to dampen the weekend getaway. That in itself is a radical concept, and if you can laugh while taking part in a much needed progressive step in the direction toward more diverse narratives dominating the screen, then that's even better.
