Officer D Roopa Transferred For Allegedly Leaking Sasikala Jail Bribery Report

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday defended his action of transferring Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) D Roopa, who exposed irregularities in Parappana Agrahara Prison, stating that the action was taken "in view of the Government's commitment to public interest, truth and justice". She has been posted as commissioner for Road Safety and Traffic.

"As a reward for bribing the prison authorities from Rao to jail warden, Sasikala gets special menu daily, cooked by special chefs in a special kitchen near the women's cell", Roopa had said in the report.

Speaking to the media, DMK spokesperson Saravanan said that the charges pressed by DIG Prisons, D Roopa are shocking. She also questioned why no action was taken against department officials, who encouraged inmates to stage a protest after her report. The government also asked her to explain her conduct, with Siddaramaiah saying it was "absolutely against the rule book".

Roopa submitted her second report to Dutta on July 15, alleging tampering of jail records and deleting a part of video footage from the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the central prison. According to News9, Rao has also been transferred but he has not been assigned any posting or department yet.

But there's no guarantee the extra time will accomplish anything except giving senators more heartburn. The removal involved a "minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision", the hospital said.

Roopa had also highlighted in her report the "special treatment" being provided to fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi.

Even though there was a demand for inquiry against her, Roopa had said that she stands by her words.

Sasikala's alleged luxurious life in Bengaluru prison surfaces in the form exclusive pictures that have been leaked to media. Rao's visit raised eyebrows as it came just a day after a probe has been ordered by the government into the allegations raised by Roopa. She is serving a four-year jail sentence for corruption.
