Monsoon session likely to be stormy

Congress President Sonia Gandhi may also hold on Sunday an informal meeting of the opposition leaders to firm up the issues to be raised during the session.

Voting for the elections will be done through the secret ballot system, today in room no 62 of the Parliament and respective state assemblies between 10 am and 5 pm. "As a responsible and principled Opposition party, we shall be raising all these issues and many more", Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said. It plans to introduce 16 new bills, push for the passage of 18 pending draft legislation and seek the approval of Parliament for the supplementary demand for grants.

CPI-M leader Mohammad Salim said on Sunday that his party will raise the issues of cross border tensions with India and Pakistan, mob lynching by cow vigilantes, and the agrarian crisis. Parliament is meeting at a crucial time when the nation has recently adopted the new indirect tax regime of Goods and Services Tax.

If parties like Mamata Banerjee-led TMC and Lalu Prasad- led RJD attack the government over the action of law enforcement agencies such as the CBI and the ED against their leaders over alleged corruption, the treasury benches too would use the issue to underline their anti-corruption credentials.
