Service workers on strike Wednesday at DIA

Service workers on strike Wednesday at DIA

Strikes planned for Newark, LaGuardia, and JFK airports were also suspended.

They work at the airports as skycaps, baggage handlers, wheelchair attendants, cabin cleaners and shuttle drivers.

Prime Flight is subcontracted by American Airlines, JetBlue and United.

At the heart of the dispute is the company's refusal to accept 32BJ Service Employees International Union as their bargaining representative, the New York Daily News reports.

Employees for AirServ, PrimeFlight and G2 say those companies have refused to meet with them on a number of issues.

The workers with SEIU Local 105 provide several services for many of DIA's major airlines.

The strikes will have a noticeable effect on all three airports, Paye said, and the company will have a hard time replacing the workers for the duration.

It's not known what, if any, disruption may come at the airport due to those who made a decision to strike. The workers are alleging unfair labor practices. The workers, employed through the airline's contractors PrimeFlight Airline Service and Prospect Aviation Services, were planning to hit the picket lines at 11:30 a.m., remaining until 6:30 p.m.

The job action is expected to last for three days.
