Jay-Z's 4:44 Gets Platinum in Just About That Time

Making a confession. Snoop Dogg has revealed that he listened to a pirated copy Jay-Z's critically acclaimed new album, 4:44, because he didn't have a subscription to streaming music service Tidal.

In one of the tracks in the same album, the rapper also shared about Beyonce's pregnancy difficulties and apologized for her multiple miscarriages.

On Sunday, many 4:44 albums were made available to download for free with the voucher code "sprint".

JAY posed with the plaque alongside RIAA president Cary Sherman. The RIAA even bent its rules to accommodate this new form of digital sales finagling; Rihanna then followed Jay's lead with her instant-platinum release of Anti past year in a similar deal of her own with Samsung. It's good news for him, seeing as the album's release was shrouded in mystery and was streamed exclusively on his service, Tidal. He is also the only hip hop artist with more than ten RIAA Platinum (or higher) studio albums.

The album represents Jay-Z's 13th platinum release.

In the animated film, directed by JAY-Z and filmmaker Mark Romanek, the rapper inhabits the cartoon bodies of some of the most persistent stereotypical representations of black people in USA history.

While no streams have been counted toward 4:44's position on the Billboard chart yet, Billboard reports that they will be by the end of the week ending on July 6.

"Fans participated, took action, and downloaded Jay-Z's album offered by Sprint", they said. This has led music industry analysts to question whether or not the "4:44" album is anything more than a marketing product for TIDAL.
