Communal violence breaks out in West Bengal

On Wednesday, the Centre had rushed around 400 BSF personnel to the spot to aid the state police in maintenance of law and order.

She said the riots are serious issue and she would handle it seriously. Banerjee's outburst also attracted a severe reaction from the BJP.

Meanwhile, the main accused, who allegedly posted objectionable material on Facebook on Sunday, was arrested on Monday morning and remanded to the police custody for four days.

The decision to tackle the violence that erupted following a Facebook post which offended a particular community, leading to huge damage of property and massive protest, comes a day after West Bengal Governor KN Tripathy rapped the state Government of inaction. With no evidence and no supporting document she is making viled allegations the Governor of West Bengal. "I felt like resigning from my chair after the manner in which he spoke with me", said Mamata.

Emergency responders were at the scene, near the airport's taxi pool, and the injuries varied in severity, the police said. The driver told authorities on the scene that he accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake, according to both sources.

Countering Chatterjee's allegation that the Raj Bhavan had become a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) den, the release said: "The Governor is of the view that Raj Bhavan is not a department of the state government and it is open to every citizen to approach him for redressal of his or her grievances".

"At around 4.30 pm we wrote to the President and sent a copy of our letter to Mr Singh also", Chatterjee said. "Her comments against the Governor are baseless and beyond her jurisdiction. I could not sleep last night due to the violence". The dignity of the high office of the CM and governor as well as decorum needs to be maintained, the home minister is said to have indicated to both. "Instead of focusing on governance and maintaining the law and order, everyday new controversies are being created to divert the attention of the people and the media", BJP leader S Prakash told ANI.

But now, with a majority of the reforms, including GST, now out of the way, the party central leadership may now go for the kill. West Bengal Left Front chairman Biman Bose said that by demanding President' rule in Bengal, the BJP and the RSS were only laying bare their game plan. Be it using the CBI or the ED as a political tool, or bypassing Parliament for their anti-people policies, BJP has been doing all to murder democracy. However, her "unprecedented" outburst against Tripathi, some feel, is indicative of her discomfort about the BJP's rise in Bengal. "He was arrested. Where is the fault of my government".
