Timeline: Gordon Hayward's 4th of July free agency rollercoaster

Hayward has opted to join the Celtics after also meeting with the Utah Jazz and Miami Heat, according to ESPN's Chris Haynes.

Hayward met with the Celtics, Jazz and Miami Heat over the past few days, weighing his free agency options. The #Boston Celtics and Hayward appeared to have a contract in place earlier in the day, but conflicting reports are coming out across the National Basketball Association.

For a solid 10 minutes on Tuesday, Celtics fans rejoiced that Gordon Hayward had chosen Boston. He also made his first All-Star appearance. Terms of Hayward's new deal were not immediately known.

However, ESPN maintains that Hayward plans to sign with the Celtics.

Maryland Attorney General says voting disclosure is barred by law
A spokesperson for Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan told KTAR in an email she has not received the commission's letter. So far, 29 states have refused to comply with the commission's request for voter data.

Or Hayward can take his talents to South Beach and join forces with Pat Riley, Erik Spoelstra and be the clear leader on a team that won 41 games a year ago and would seemingly take a big leap forward with him.

The Celtics have been linked to every frontcourt star - Kevin Durant, Paul George, Jimmy Butler, Blake Griffin, Carmelo Anthony, DeMarcus Cousins... - rumored to be switching teams the last couple years.

This is the second straight year the Celtics have been able to acquire a marquee free agent.

The Hayward - Celtics connection makes sense for so many reasons. As such, both teams have offered hefty contracts to try to lure him away from the Utah Jazz. Some surmised the news leaked before Hayward had a chance to speak to the Jazz about his decision, leaving the forward and his camp to clean the mess before making things official. Boston had the best record in the East (53-29) last season and advanced to the Eastern Conference finals where they lost to Cleveland in five games.
