Revised Military option on North Korea to be presented to Trump

Revised Military option on North Korea to be presented to Trump

He's on his first official working visit to the United States, and besides meeting with business leaders here, he will also be meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

President Moon Jae-in waves with first lady, Kim Jung-sook as they embark on a trip to the an airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on Wednesday.

Questions over whether Kang Kyung-wha's remarks presume THAAD will be deployed or not "Securing democratic and procedural legitimacy through an environmental impact assessment of the THAAD site will further strengthen public support for the THAAD deployment and ultimately strengthen the South Korea-US alliance". Shortly before Moon's election, Park's administration authorized the installation of the USA missile defense system.

Now, however, Moon insists he will stand united with President Trump on demanding the dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear program, expressing hope it would eventually lead to peace across Northeast Asia.

The options for the Trump administration on North Korea are as bad as they were for previous administrations. Until that time, both leaders look to increase pressure on the regime.

Marcus Noland, an expert on North Korea at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, D.C., told UPI in a phone interview the United States and South Korea are on a "potentially unsafe trajectory at this point" because of different approaches to North Korea.

That represented a $165-million loss in exports for the month, including $105 million in B.C. and $18 million in Quebec. Results of a final investigation is expected in September to determine if the tariffs are permanent, the release noted.

Several of Moon's picks, including the defence and unification ministers, have yet to be formally appointed, even as the country faces the challenge of stopping North Korea's defiant pursuit of nuclear and missile programmes.

Trump has also invited uncertainty with a departure from the script of "strategic patience" of the Obama administration.

Chief among Noland's concerns is Moon's rhetoric regarding the Kaesong Industrial Complex, a jointly operated factory park in North Korea that shut down in 2016. While Korea has enjoyed a bigger trade surplus in goods, the USA has also benefited from a service trade surplus of around 10 billion dollars a year. In spite of the increase in USA exports to the peninsula, the POTUS believes there remains a large trading gap with South Korea.

South Korea's ousted president is now facing a corruption trial over a scandal that ignited mass protests and led to her downfall. Or maybe that's just what he and his cronies want us to believe.

Tokyo is also watching to see how the US military's deployment of its Terminal High Altitude Area Defense anti-missile system, or THAAD, affects relations between Seoul and Beijing, which has railed against the move. On the campaign trail, Trump threatened to rip up the Korea Free Trade Agreement.

Later Friday, South Korean President Moon will return to the White House for a one on one meeting with President Trump and a subsequent meeting between the respective executive cabinets. Moon is scheduled to arrive in Washington on a three-day visit beginning today.
