1000-Acre Castaic Lake Brush Fire Remains at 10% Containment

As of 6:30 a.m. Monday, the blaze was 60 percent contained, according to a tweet posted from the Angeles National Forest's account.

The fire is in an area with hard access near the Golden State (5) Freeway and Ridge Route Road, LACFD Capt. Ron Singleton told City News Service. Over the weekend, fire officials had said the wildfire scorched 1,000 acres.

Two outbuildings have been destroyed, but there have been no evacuations and no road closures.

About 300 firefighters from the Angeles National Forest and LACFD were battling the blaze, LACFD Fire Inspector Richard Licon told City News Service.

The fire near Castaic Lake.

Firefighters were concerned about the flames spreading due to hot, dry conditions, he said.

This year however, the cut-off did not touch the mark of 100 percent but stayed at 97.75 percent, which is still quite high. The DU UG cutoff for Graduate Degree courses such as B.Sc, B.A, B.Com, Arts, Commerce and Science branches was released.

The fire was first reported around 2 p.m., and initial reports said it had grown from 5 acres to 175 acres.

No structures are now threatened, he said, although two outhouses were lost in the brush fire. In San Bernardino County, crews reported 70% containment on the Zermatt fire near Wrightwood, which consumed 11 acres.

In Palmdale, a 32-year-old heat record was broken on Sunday when temperatures climbed to 108 degrees.

After a day of working in triple digit heat, Licon expressed concern over a second full day in the same heat. "The firefighters will be out there, but there will be no shade for them". Earlier in the day, another firefighter sustained a minor hand injury and was taken to a hospital. The west side of Upper Castaic Lake is still open for recreational use.

"Those fuels burned very quickly", Nathan Judy said.
