Trump Appears to Confirm He Is Under Federal Investigation

The memo instructed aides and volunteers Thursday to save the documents related to Russia, Ukraine and several campaign advisers: Paul Manafort, Carter Page, Roger Stone, Rick Gates and Michael Flynn, according to the report. But the Federal Bureau of Investigation is looking into whether Gorkov suggested to Kushner that Russian banks could finance the business ventures of Trump's associates if U.S. sanctions were lifted or relaxed. The official demanded anonymity because the official was not authorized to be named discussing the deliberations.

Gingrich, the former House speaker whose wife is seeking Senate approval to become the USA ambassador to the Vatican, continued to defend Trump Thursday morning. This could raise questions as to the conflict between Kushner's personal problems and his role as a public official. His investigation is still in a relatively early phase, and it is unclear if any criminal charges will be brought when it is complete, the Post pointed out.

The memo sent Thursday asks for records related to foreign travel, contacts with Russian "officials, agents or nationals" and background investigations into the top Trump associates now targeted by Mueller's probe.

"It would be standard practice for the Special Counsel to examine financial records to look for anything related to Russian Federation". The White House denies any collusion.

Citing a memo from the general counsel´s office of Trump's transition team, the Times said former members were given the order on Thursday for any information involving Russian Federation or Ukraine in the latest sign of the investigations' expanding reach.

Last week it was revealed that Mueller is investigating Trump for obstruction of justice for the way in which he fired FBI Director James Comey. This confirmation came after he thrice reassured Trump of his (Trump's) non-involvement in the matter. He wrote about it on Twitter, Associated Press reported and elaborated on the story citing sources within the administration.

Trump's legal team and surrogates are "building a case for firing Mueller", wrote Richard Painter in a tweet after he appeared on Fox News Saturday. However, the decision was not unanimous as general counsel James A Baker voiced his disagreement.

The Washington Post on Wednesday reported that Mueller is investigating the Republican president for possible obstruction of justice.

"And so he was reluctant to make the statement that I made", Comey said.

The White House confirmed that Mueller was among the candidates Trump interviewed to replace Comey.

It is believed he was referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mr Mueller as special prosecutor to investigate the Trump campaign. That official argued Trump "shot himself in the foot again with this cockamamie scheme to get Mueller to play ball".

Trump has told associates he has the legal authority to fire Mueller.
