Britain's Lewis Hamilton triumphed "with ease" in the Canadian Grand Pix on Sunday held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.

Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes will have left their Formula One title challengers Ferrari reeling after their performance at the Canadian Grand Prix.

"It was great for me and the entire team". The 18-year-old Williams driver was born and raised in Montreal but will probably care more about the fact that he has scored his first points in Formula One than where he registered them.

The Briton might have cut Vettel's lead further if not for an inspired charge by the German who fought his way to fourth after a damaged front wing forced a pitstop and dropped him to the back of the field early on.

"Today I just really relived my first grand prix win in 2007".

Vettel suffered damage to his vehicle when being overtaken by Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the first corner and pitted for repairs four laps later, but he refused to blame the Dutch youngster.

Mishaps at the start put Hamilton and Bottas home free in what had been expected to be a tight race with the Ferraris, who were coming off a one-two finish two weeks ago in Monaco.

"I wanted to get a trophy", said Vettel after being told that he looked like a man on a mission in the closing stages of the race.

"I had a little bit of a feel out of Turn 6, and then the safety vehicle came but I wasn't sure because the first lap of the race, especially because it was very windy today, I thought it might have been a gust On the first lap I thought the tyres were not there".

At the restart, Verstappen attacked Hamilton hard, nearly making a pass that would have changed the race.

Scalise underwent surgery for his injuries, according to his official Facebook page , and is now listed in stable condition. A total of five people, including Scalise and the gunman, were injured in the shooting, according to multiple reports .

"To bounce back in this way shows the calibre of the group that we have in the team, but the secret to this weekend was to keep the ball flat, stay calm, analyse our problems and come up with solutions".

When Bottas too went into the pits on lap 23, Esteban Ocon managed to take his Force India into the second position and stayed there, until his first pit stop on lap 32. "I think experiencing it with Valtteri is definitely different - the chemistry Valtteri and I have is different".

While Mercedes quickly rediscovered their mojo, they will need to keep it with Vettel leading Hamilton in the drivers' championship by 12 points.

Ayrton Senna was the victor of three Formula One world championships in 1988, 1990 and 1991.

Although Lewis Hamilton acknowledges that Ferrari will still be "be very hard to beat", he was delighted to close the gap to Sebastian Vettel in Canada.

"It has been smooth", Hamilton said.

"Obviously, we're not the quickest vehicle on the track at the moment but we're managing to put it together on a Sunday", said Ricciardo.

"So it's awesome to be on the podium here in Canada".

"I could see on the TV screen that he was seventh, sixth, fifth, and then I saw him in fourth, and I was like "God damn it", it would have been better if he was in fifth".
