Aldi To Open 900 Stores In US In 5 Years

Aldi on Monday announced a $3.4 billion capital investment that would expand the small discounter to 2,500 locations by the end of 2022 - an expansion the company said would make it the third largest us grocery chain by store count.

Although Aldi opened some of its stores in existing retail space, such as the San Bernardino store on Hospitality Lane, it built several from the ground up. Aldi now has 1,600 stores in 35 states. Earlier this year, Aldi announced it would invest $1.6 billion in to remodel 1,300 of its stores by 2020. Another German discount supermarket chain, Lidl, will open the first 10 American stores this week as part of its own expansion plan.

Rival Lidl will open the first of its 100 United States stores on June 15. By 1960, the brothers had built the brand into a chain of 300 stores, and chose to split the business into two operations: Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd.

The German retailer, which has already shaken up European supermarkets with its cheap prices, has revealed plans to spend an extra $3.4bn (£2.7bn) in the States.

Aldi: Orange County stores are in Fountain Valley, Anaheim and Buena Park with new locations planned for Westminster and Laguna Woods. The new competition in the low-margin industry arrives during a deflationary spiral that has seen food prices drop for 17 straight months, the longest such streak in more than 60 years. And like Aldi, it offers a limited selection of products, the vast majority of which as exclusive brands.

The Conservatives sought, as they have done this time, a 'who governs Britain?' mandate. "It was a disaster", he said. Former Conservative cabinet minister Owen Paterson, asked about her future, said: "Let's see how it pans out".

Both Walmart and Lidl, as well as other stores nearby, are figuring out how to beat a rival that hasn't opened any stores on this continent yet.

Aldi already has plans for 2,000 U.S. stores by 2018 - up from 1,600 in 2014. The chain will also remodel hundreds of its current US locations.

Hart emphasized organic produce and healthy options throughout the store as Aldi's strengths.

"I expect that Aldi will invest in e-commerce and duplicate their discount models online at some point in the near future", he said.
